Grafton, Nebraska, is a small, spirited rural community with 126 residents, located on U.S. Highway 6 in northwestern Fillmore County. The community lies six miles west of Fairmont, Neb., and U.S. Highway 81; 70 miles west of Lincoln, Neb.; and 37 miles east of Hastings, Neb.

The Burlington Northern Railroad had an influential role in founding and locating Grafton. In 1876, Grafton's residents numbered 50 and it rapidly become an essential grain market and trade center. Today, it continues to be a part of a large, rich agricultural region in which farmers are carrying on a broad program of farming and livestock raising.

In 1881, the bank of Grafton was organized with H.O. Chase, one of the ablest financiers in Nebraska. Mr. Chase later founded the famous Chase National Bank in New York, currently known as Chase Manhatten.
